Yet another hotel coming to Downtown Brooklyn

This one is a Cambria Suites hotel, which is a popular Baltimore Hotel chain. It will be located at 75 Schermerhorn Street between Court Street and Boerum Place. There is a parking lot in its place right now. I guess it's time to sell your car if you live Downtown. Parking lots are being eaten up at an alarming rate.

Do they really expect to be able to fill all of these hotels?

Starwood Aloft, the Sheraton, an expanded Mariott, the Cambria Suites, a planned hotel in the Albee Square development, the Smith Hotel (if that building EVER gets finished), and there are others, like the unnamed one planned for Livingston, one at Nevins and Schermerhorn by Sam Change,

Is there the demand? Will there be? I'm not saying there won't be, but it is definitely the optimistic view.

Did you all get your closing notices? Seems they will be closing floors 4-9 on Aug. 27th, subject to getting the TCO.

Great news, no?

Yup, though I don't think they're actually going to have the closings on those units all on the same day - I think once attorneys speak with each other, they'll be spread out over that week and the following week.

All in all, great news. Rumor has it the TCO has been approved by the city as of Tuesday, and now it is down to paperwork. But that's only a rumor at this point, so far as I know.

I'm a owner on the 4th floor and I also got the closing notice on Aug. 27th. Although I'm happy to receive the closing notice, I was highly disappointed when I went to visit my apt. this weekend and I noticed it's far, far from move in shape. If other apts. are in similar shape, there's no way the apartments will be ready and pass owner inspections around the closing time. Are others experiencing the same thing?

Our unit looks pretty much ready to go - a coat of paint and a good cleaning and it's pretty much there. So I wouldn't worry too much - they can get a lot done in a short time...

Anonymous 12:41, thanks for your note. Would you mind telling me what floor you're on. Perhaps certain floors are more ready than others.

Thanks..."neighbor" :-)

I'm on 4 as well (so your initial comment surprised me). I will say that I was there a couple of weeks ago, and it looked like it had a looooong way to go. Then I was back about a week ago with a painter to do a walkthrough, and things looked a significantly better. I don't know their work patterns (floor by floor or maybe floorplan line by floorplan line), but if you're on the 4th floor, they should have it ready to go in time (fingers crossed for you!).

My unit is looking pretty close to being done as well, except for a few minor cosmetic items.

Can you give us more detail on what was not right (so we know what to look for in our walk-throughs!).

Thanks.

Does it make sense to start a separate page so people can comment on their walk through and closing process?

Either a new comments section, per your suggestion 2:35... or people can join the email-mailing list/forum which GuyFromDoBro set up if you want to start an inspection discussion. About 40 of the buyers are already part of that group...

Can you tell me how to join that group?

There's a link on the right side of the main blog page (I think it says "BellTel Lofts Forums" or something like that - I'm not looking at it at this precise moment). I joined a while ago, so I'm a little hazy on the details at this point, but I think that you get a message saying that you can't read the forums without joining the group and gives you a link to ask GuyFromDoBro for access. He'll add you and you're all set.

Or I guess you can just email GuyFromDoBro directly (streetshooter1@gmail.com)!

In any event, he had to make it "members only" because some of the sales people from Elliman tried to join -- and everyone agreed that having them reading our posts and comments would be somewhat detrimental to an honest discussion about some of the issues people were having. Thus the laborious process for joining...
